Our Manufacturing Process

Since creation, we have been determined to base as much of our brand as possible around using organic cottons, recycled polyesters and recycled paper products & plastics. On top of this, something extremely important to us was being adament that everyone in our chain of manufacturing is paid a fair & liveable wage.

The world we live in is so automated, we tend to forget there is real human beings behind that piece of clothing in your hands. We work strictly with fair wage, fair trade and european safety certified factories. When we outsource fabrics from outside of europe, such as our handmade Peruvian fabrics in some of our sensory mask ranges, we do so through close personal connections, paying directly the makers without middlemen.

Take a look at some of our processes below, and of our opinions on each one. And thank you for taking an interest in how we do things here at Organi.

  • This is the PETA certification to gaurantee that our products don't contain any animal derivatives or animal testings.

  • The GOTS certification is the world standard of the traceability and credibility of organically grown cottons.

  • Recycled 100 is used as a chain of custody standard to track recycled raw materials through the supply chain.

  • OEKO-TEX certifies that the materials at all stages of production contain no substance harmful to people or to the environment.

Organic (to be?)

Organic cotton was an obvious and must have when we began Organi, but as we gained industry experience we discovered just how deeper it goes. What many people don’t know is the profound reality of how privileged we are to declare we want organic cotton in our lives. That privilege however doesn’t easily extend to so many of the growers whose livelihoods depend on their only trade & income. What does this mean? It means that as so many of us rush from zero to 100 on demanding only organic cottons to be used, we leave out unimaginably large numbers of cotton farmers who cant afford to change to organic or farm without chemicals. How so? Farming without chemicals takes a lot of time and often more employees to ensure the crops make it, fresh waters, good soil, nutrients, alternative pest control methods etc. As we have conditioned these farmers to accept pennies for their work, many of them don’t have any form of savings to invest in converting to organic.

This is a major problem, as our good intentions can wreck havoc and replace one harm with another.

How do we remedy this? Alone we can not, but we can play our part, and we have found our part to play. We not only use organic cottons in our products, we also use something called organic-in-conversion cotton. This is usually a blend of regular and organic cotton, allowing farmers who can't yet make the change ease into the production line, with promises to convert their land at their own pace, all while keeping their livelihoods.

We said profound no? This golden industry experience that we are always working on to differentiate us from other brands, and is something we are super proud of and what we want to extend to all of our customers, both through our products and education.

Recycled VS Recyclable

Did this one get you out? The difference in spelling is so subtle it often goes without notice, but the meaning couldn't be more important.
Basically, recycled content is a product that contains recycled material (in that this product was once destined for the landfill, but has been removed from that and put back into circulation). Where as recyclable means its virgin plastic (aka new plastic added to the world purposely for your use) and that it has a likelihood that the material will be recycled if properly thrown, collected & sorted and converted into a new item.

We use the latter recycled plastics in our packaging and fabrics. We don't just want to add to the pollution and throw the responsibility onto you, we rather take from the pollution already there and give it new life.

Circularity is key.

Against Compostable?!

Yep you read that right.
And yes, it's a hard picture to see.

Many brands jump onto the bandwagon for the advertising opportunity, or accidentally greenwash when trying to tick every 'sustainable' box without thought. We grilled ourselves over and over to make sure the decisions we take as a brand matches with our original goal; to really offer a heartfelt difference. This has even gone against us as it delayed our growth commercially, but we wanted to lay the foundations strong to grow later.

One of those decisions was compostable plastics. A big no from us. When it first emerged as a viable solution we were as excited as the next. A plastic alternative that could decompose and go back to the planet. What could possibly be wrong? The commercialisation.
In a cruel twist to human innovation, the 'solution' to growing the corn to produce the plastic alternative, is heavily sprayed with pesticides. Often tens of times stronger as it's not for 'human consumption'.
The result? Hoards of dying wildlife. Insects eliminated, breeding impaired, birds dropping down, small mammals poisoned.

We can't call this a supply chain, and leave out the chain part. Our co-existers might not have much to do with fashion or clothing, but they are part of the Earth's chain. We all are.

Charity

In terms of heart and soul we are a fully established business, but in monetary terms we are still emerging. A small business. As joint owners, we don't even pay ourselves a salary from Organi as we are so focused on growth. However, a big thing we want to get into next is charity contributions, as we would love to complete our circularity ideology by giving back when we are able.

If you know of some especially deserving charities, or maybe work close with one, please get in contact with us and let us know. And when we are ready we would be honoured to consider our options!

We're Not Flawless...

Sometimes we fall into the frustration that is 'perfectionism'. We all do, until we realised there is no perfect. We genuinely strive day to day to always learn, be educated, create solutions and straight out try our best to commit to our ethos.
We love fashion, we love the alternative, we love bringing some color, some elegance and some inspiration into the world. But most of all, we love our customers, and every order we receive gives us that boost to keep going, and that excitement that we got to play our part together.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about us.
